The Company is currently out on tour with the Christmas pantomime, The Curse of Hodmahat's Gold, which is touring Primary schools throughout the Central belt.
We are looking forward to a very busy 2012 and are delighted to announce the availability of a new FREE show for community groups. Road Safety Scotland, the government funded body responsible for the development of road safety education and publicity initiatives in Scotland, has been working with Baldy Bane Theatre Company in the development of a new road safety resource for the community.
The stage play Better Late Than Dead on Time is designed for performance to all generations within communities and covers many issues such as the various hazards to drivers and pedestrians; young drivers, including problems of teenage drinking; parents parking too close to school gates; reaction times of older drivers; inappropriate speed. All topics are dealt with sensitively and are primarily presented in a humorous but realistic way to focus awareness and discussion in the audiences. If considered appropriate, there is the opportunity for an interactive post-show session, which takes the form of an enjoyable, and possibly rewarding quiz.
Baldy Bane is due to tour this new drama all over Scotland for a 10 week period from 6th February 2012 until 13th April 2012. It is hoped that a wide variety of groups will take up the offer to host the production in their local community venue.
The production is funded by Road Safety Scotland and is FREE to all groups. Contact the Baldy Bane office directly on 0141 632 0193 to reserve a booking.
Mairi Blair, Assistant Director, Road Safety Scotland said, ”In the road environment, pedestrians and drivers can be affected by the same road safety issues, no matter the age. Baldy Bane Theatre Company has, once again, developed a wonderfully funny, and incredibly thought-provoking and stimulating play to engage the whole community. Don’t miss out!”
Alison Couston, Executive Director, Baldy Bane Theatre said, ”We are excited about taking this new production out on the road as it is relevant to so many groups within our communities. It gives a very human perspective on the issues highlighted in the play, and, most importantly it is very entertaining for the audience and will provide an excellent focus for any group meeting. We are keen for as many organisations to get in touch to embrace the opportunity of hosting this free resource.”
The Journey 2012
We will be also be taking our road safety play The Journey out on the road to Primary 6 pupils across the whole of Scotland from February until May. The play explores the developing relationships between a group of young friends as they journey through primary school towards secondary school. The people they meet and the places they go all exert different influences on them. Parents and teachers may put up certain restrictions, but peer pressure may encourage a sense of rebellion and lead to behavior that will put them at risk. The play is split into performance and forum sections, which allow the audience to examine, discuss and re-direct what they have seen.
“The production gave a really good balance of educating and entertaining, making the pupils very aware of correct and safe ways to deal with influences and situations they might encounter. We also felt it 'hit' a variety of CfE Health and Wellbeing Experiences and Outcomes. It was super the way the children were really put in the shoes of the characters and encouraged to contribute and become involved.”
Funded by Road Safety Scotland, this production is free to all primary schools and booked through local road safety teams.
Crush
A tour of this highly successful play will go ahead in Spring 2012. Crush is a humorous but thought-provoking theatre-in-education project for secondary schools that looks at the serious issues of abuse within teenage relationships, gender stereotyping and the media’s impact on young people’s body image and behavior.
“This production was minimalist, four actors, basic props. It was attention grabbing, funny, serious, right length, very powerful and appropriate to the target audience. Workshop at end was very effective. Every school should get an opportunity to see this well written, thought provoking drama!”
